About the Department
DDBT is the home of Radyo DZLB, the oldest educational and development-oriented radio station in the Philippines, which first aired on August 2, 1964. Radyo DZLB helps promote the research, extension, and public service initiatives of the College and UPLB. The Department is composed of faculty, research, extension, and professional staff, and administrative staff with experience and expertise in the fields of broadcasting, media studies, development studies, environmental science, and science communication.
More about the Department >>>DDBT staff teach students on the concepts, principles, and skills in community broadcasting, with a focus on radio and online programming. Students get to experience researching, writing, producing, and hosting their own radio broadcast programs.

The Department of Development Broadcasting and Telecommunication (DDBT) shall be the leading academic unit responsive to inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development needs of communities using community broadcasting for education, training, research, and extension and public service.
Mission
DDBT’s mission is to advance the discipline of community broadcasting by strengthening the capabilities of various stakeholders and creating knowledge to cocreate inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities and achieve improved lives through community communication praxis.
Research Projects
Research agenda of DDBT from 2024 to 2030 include the following: community engagement and participation, community/development broadcasting and inclusive development, technology application and innovations, sustainability and management of community broadcast media, historical review, impact, and evaluation of community broadcast media, broadcast policy and regulatory framework review, development reportage, community communication, and theorizing development/community broadcasting.
